Term 3 in St. Joseph's has seen a series of sporting events, with many pupils from throughout the school taking part and some silverware collected along the way.
Sports Days
Our annual Sports Day were held at Strandtown Primary School in beautiful sunshine. Two days of activities involved all pupils participating in the team circuits and the individual running races, with a series of prizegivings held back in St.Joseph's several days later.
Soccer
Several soccer events took place during term 3, both in school and at other venues:
the annual Mr Ryan Cup was held in the playground with pupils from P5, 6 and 7 participating infront of some very vocal spectators. Eventually the competition drew to a close with 'The Hammers' claiming victory in a tense final. Click here to watch the final on our YouTube channel.
The Brian Dempster Cup, organised by Danny Allen, was held at Campbell College, with six teams, made up of pupils from P6 and 7 travelling to Campbell to take on their counterparts from the Junior School. Following a series of games, Campbell won the trophy and a significant amount of money was raised for The Cancer Fund for Children courtesy of donations from pupils and parents.
Mrs Duffy took two teams to 'The Galacticos' football tournaments at Avoneil, with the boys' team finishing as runners up.
St.Matthew's Primary School invited us to their annual seven-a-side tournament at Doyle Youth Club. St.Joseph's finished in an admirable fourth position.
Rugby
Following the conclusion of in-school Rugby sessions for P6 and 7 pupils, coached by Stan Cinnamon. Teams from St.Joseph's participated in a series of non competitive tournaments organised by Stan at the Blanchflower Stadium. All teams performed incredibly well, winning the majority of their games.
GAA
Forty-four pupils from P6 and 7 took on pupils from St.Bernard's Primary School and Christ the Redeemer Primary School for the Cherryvale Cup. All teams showed great skill and sportsmanship, with one of the St.Joseph's boys' teams emerging as victors of the boy's competition.
Basketball
Our final sporting event of the academic year was the St.Joe's Basketball Blitz. Twelve teams, comprising of over one hundred pupils from P5-7 took part with 'The Jazz' beating 'The Spurs' in the final by a score of sixteen points to six. Click here to watch the final on our YouTube channel.
