Homework is an important part of each child’s learning. We know from consultation with parents that they enjoy helping their children at home. Homework should be a reinforcement of classwork and therefore an effective means of communicating to parents what is being learned in school.
Homework will not be excessive and should not exceed the following:
P1 - practical (stress free activities that are both fun and enjoyable)
P2 - practical (stress free activities that are both fun and enjoyable)
P3 – 15 – 20 minutes
P4 - 25 – 30 minutes
P5 - 30 – 45 minutes
P6 - 45 – 60 minutes
P7 - 45 – 60 minutes
Written homework should always be signed by a parent. In addition, children should be encouraged to read every night. When homework is frequently not completed the class teacher will inform the parent. Parents are encouraged to keep good contact with the class teacher if there are any concerns or worries about homework. If homework has gone on beyond the recommendations above, we would suggest that you stop the homework, indicate on the child’s book how long he/she has worked on it and sign it.
