Term 3 has been a busy but successful few months for sport at St. Joseph's!
Sports Day
We were delighted to be able to return to our usual format for Sports Day after some covid-enforced changes over the past few years. P1 & 2 completed their activities in the school playground, whilst P3-7 made the short trip to Strandtown. Great fun was had at the events, with lots of competitive action to decide the winners of the trophies and medals. A big thank you to Mrs Duffy (assisted by the P7s) for organising all the activities.

Mr Ryan Cup
June also saw the return of the annual Mr Ryan Cup. Some super soccer action was served up, with teams, each with the name of an Irish League team being cheered on in each game by a noisy and enthusiastic crowd. The final was contested by Warrenpoint Town and Cliftonville, with Warrenpoint emerging as victors from an enthralling contest. A big thank you to Mr Donnelly for organising such a fun event.

Basketball Blitz
Our very first Basketball Blitz was was contested at St.Joseph's and just like the Mr Ryan Cup, it was an exciting competition. Players from P5 to P7 made up the six teams fighting to be the first winners of the Blitz. Following a gripping, end-to-end final, The Belfast Ballers emerged as worthy winners. Well done to all who participated.

Rugby
A group of P6 and P7 pupils recently entered a rugby tournament organised by Civil Service. Under the coaching of Mr McBride the team emerged victorious, returning to St.Joseph's with the silverware!

Gaelic Football Blitz
Over forty boys and girls represented St.Joseph's in a GAA blitz with St.Bernard's Primary School at Aquinas. A wonderful day of action was had by all four teams that took on St. Bernard's and a big thank you goes to all the parents who assisted us on the day to ensure that we could attend the competition.

Golf
Brian from P7 recently represented St.Joseph's in the Irish Schools' Open in Wicklow. Brian shot a fantastic 11 over par and finished in second place, just one shot behind the winner! An incredible achievement that now qualifies Brian for a world championship competition. Well done Brian!
