News from Home!

This week has been full of excitement and we are all looking forward to the PTA’s very special event tonight! First let us bring you some news from our stars this week!

Three pupils from P5 - Rowan, along with twin sisters, Lily and Grace - all took part in a Q&A session as part of a Zoom interactive programme with the WWF on Friday 5th June. The theme centred on the threats to orangutans’ habitat and to communities of people living in jungles in Malaysia. The pressures come from the huge environmental impact of the intensive farming of palm oil trees and deforestation.
Questions were put forward by the three pupils and one question even got answered “live” by the programme presenter, which was very exciting! WWF answered that they would like to encourage companies to use a logo like Fairtrade, but companies are afraid to use this logo because palm oil gets such negative publicity.
Well done, our Eco super stars for articulating their questions so well!

Last year the very talented girl, Niamh, from P2 built a robin house at Greenville Park Fun Day and this year there is a robin nesting in it! The chicks have been getting fed by their mum and dad and will be ready to leave the nest soon!

Do you like baking? Everyone at St. Joseph’s were amazed this week by Okiki’s baking skills! Okiki in P6 baked an amazing chocolate cake for her grandfather's birthday!

Daithi from P5 also shared his amazing skills in the kitchen with us. He independently followed instructions and treated his whole family to a chilli! Super work Daithi; it looks delicious!

Finally, this week we leave you with some news from another star from Primary 5. As it is Carers Week, we have included this picture of Jacob. Jacob is a very special boy who goes above and beyond for his little brother. His brother attends Tor Bank Special School and the theme for this week’s work for Cillian was ‘Space’. Jacob built his brother a Lego spaceship to help him understand the theme. Well done Jacob! You inspire us all!

Thank-you to all the boys and girls for sharing all their amazing news from home with us over the last few months of Home Learning! Today’s News from Home will be our last for this school year but please continue to check the website for updates. Next week we hope to share lots of photos from our very special Sports Day event. Please forward your photos to your teacher or email them to stjosephs.stars@gmail.com if you would like to star on our website.

Don’t forget the PTA’s final event of the year – ‘St Jo’s Got Talent’, featuring live performances, as well as artistic and written submissions. Definitely the lockdown event of the year, and a final chance to support the school and the wonderfully talented children within.
